This is a high-quality Japanese Natural Whetstone (JNAT) known as "Shobonyama Shiro Suita" with beautiful "Aka Renge" (red lotus patterns). It is a finishing stone (Shiage-toishi) that features a slightly soft hardness, providing excellent smooth gliding and generating rich, dark slurry easily. It offers strong abrasive power, delivering a beautifully clouded finish on the jigane (soft steel) and a razor-sharp edge on the hagane (hard steel). Ideal for sharpening chisels, planes, kitchen knives, and carving tools.

Condition:

Pre-owned / Used. It has scratches, stains, and minor structural natural lines typical of natural stones. It comes securely attached to a custom Hinoki (Japanese cypress) wooden base with silicone, and the non-sharpening sides have been sealed/protected to prevent water damage.
